How To Fix Cherry Mobile Flare Camera Problems

UPDATE (May 2, 2013): If you are getting an error message “Cannot connect to the camera,” it’s a software issue and there’s nothing users can do about that. We are positive a software update could fix it, HOWEVER, Cherry Mobile hasn’t released an update yet or it may take several months before they do. So, our advice is, exercise your right and demand the device be replaced.
We tried contacting Cherry Mobile a few weeks ago but we got no answer. Still, we are waiting for the company’s representative to email us (help@sebertech.com) and clarify things about CM Flare camera problems.

Many Cherry Mobile Flare users have been complaining about camera problems and issues they’ve experienced with the device. Below are some specifics and recommendations on how to solve those problems…
It’s been a little over a month since I’ve been experimenting with Cherry Mobile Flare. The phone features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipset with a dual-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz. It comes with a 4-inch display with a decent resolution at 480 x 800 pixels and a 5-megapixel primary camera, which I’ve been having problems since last week.

A 5MP camera is not really impressive but it’s pretty decent for a budget-friendly, Android ICS smartphone. So, it was the first thing I set my focus on considering camera issues seem common (well, a quick search on Google would tell you CM Flare users are bugged with camera problems). It took me a four days and 204 pictures to finally replicate a problem.

Basically, my findings are:
  • CM Flare camera freezes following hours of extensive use
  • CM Flare camera lags after taking lots of pictures
  • Issues with the camera is not software-related
Cherry Mobile Flare Camera Freezes
The first problem I encountered with the phone’s camera is that it freezes after some time.
Problem: If you’ve been using the camera for several minutes or hours, the phone becomes unresponsive for few seconds and the stock camera app freezes while its service is still running in the background eating up memory space. Fortunately, you can still use other services.
  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Choose Apps, then All.
  3. Find Camera app and tap on it.
  4. Tap Force Close button.
  5. Try to run Camera again and see if it works.
  6. If it doesn’t, reboot your phone.
Explanation: It could be a bug in the camera app or the OS itself that’s causing this problem. Since the graphical user interface stops responding, users couldn’t close the app gracefully. The only thing left to do is to Force Close the app.
Note: Rebooting the phone without force-closing the app’s service wouldn’t do any good either.
Cherry Mobile Flare Camera Lags
Problem: After you have snapped a lot of pictures, you would feel like CM Flare’s camera becomes unresponsive or lags randomly. Or, at least, you would feel that the app’s performance has never been the same since you first took the first photo using the Flare. 

Not only does the app itself has a problem, it also has issues with photo-managing service–the Gallery app. After you’ve taken a lot of photos, it would take time for the Camera app to pass and store them to the Gallery app. After some time, both apps freeze for few seconds then become responsive again and the vicious cycle never ends until you do something about it. That said, here’s what you need to do:
  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Choose Apps, then All.
  3. Find Camera app and tap on it.
  4. Tap Force Close button.
  5. Go back to Apps list and find Gallery.
  6. Tap on it to open its Settings page.
  7. Tap Force Close button to stop the service.
  8. Go back to Home screen.
  9. Reboot phone and wait until it becomes active again.
  10. Run Camera app again and it should be working fine now.
Explanation: If it were a hardware issue, there is a little chance you could make the camera to work again. However, until Cherry Mobile releases an update that would fix these issues, there’s nothing more we (as users) can do than to do follow the workarounds I’ve specified above.

Please note that the procedures I’ve tried and mentioned here may not work in your case. I posted them here as recommendations and not as ultimate fix to Cherry Mobile Flare camera problems and issues.

sakin..wala nagstock na xa sa front camera..wala ng lumalabas na button para marotate para mbalik sa back camera..anu kaya prob???

Yung sakin nga ee laging cannot connect to the camera lagi.. replacement nalang ata talaga magagawa ko.. pasok pa naman ee..

nakakabadtrip.. ganun din problema nung flare ko! black screen lang kapag open ng camera, cant connect to the camera error.. ang konti pa ng service center ng CM, tapos di nila agad magawan ng paraan

As of now may natuklasan na akong solusyon.. pero it's up to you kung gagawin mo...
1) Back Up your files
2) Turn off your cellphone
3) Long press(Hold) UP key and POWER key
4) Wait till mag GREEN yung screen and kapag nag RED na is dun mo na i-release yung pag press sa dalawang key(UP,POWER)
5) select "wipe cache partition" using volume key, then press power button(long press), wait till its done.
6) again using the volume key, select "wipe data/factory reset" and press POWER BUTTON(longpress) wait till its done.
7) REBOOT your cp and its done!


NOTE: Pag hindi parin mapa gana yung camera, just repeat the steps..
1st trial ko is ERROR parin, but 2nd trial ay gumana na ulit camera ng cp ko...

Mine, nagloko yung front camera kanina. Yung back camera lang gumagana for around 4 hours. Never p naman nangyari sa unit to. Kahit restart ayaw bumalik ng front camera. Then, I removed the software I installed yesterday "COLOR TOUCH". Back to normal as of now. naging ok n yung front. But still not sure up to when.... "Maybe software conflict lang."

puro front camera na lang ng CM Superion Duos ko yung gumagana...any advise para maayos to kasi sa ngayon wala pa akong budget para ipaayos ito sa Cherry center...

Wala na bang solusyun ito halos ganito problima lahat ng flare hindi gumagana yung back camera yung front lang ang gumagana. . Kailangan ma aksionan tung ganitong problima

Savakin laging can't connect to the camera o camera is not responding.. off ng off ako sa cp ko
.. sobrang hassle lang.. kaasar pag gamit ko siya sa skype. sana may solusyon nito..

Ganyan sa flare ng tito ko .. cant connect din, tpos tnryko yung mga steps dito na nakalagay then may nabasa din ako na ioff muna para mapahinga ung phone .. tapos yung pag open ko at pag try ng camera working na sya ulit :) thumbs up sa article na to nakatulong po sakin :)

Bkit ganun ung sa front camera ng sakin nawala ung icon na kini-click. d ko tuloy magamit ung front camera. simula nung nireformat ko siya. pa help nman guyz!

Problem ng flare q is Front Camera lang gumagana.. May nka install aqng ibang camera apps .. Camera 360,Split Camera at Cymera! Dinelete q ung Split at Cymera, then pag restart q ng cp.. Ayun na fix na!

i was able to fix my phone issue. what happen, it corrupted the application thus corrupted my memory card, since its a software issue. coz i notice when i check on the apps, it doesnt load the total cache and all that. So i tried removing my memory card and access its files, tried removing all the application and tried to place it back, my camera went working but then it still doesnt save my picture, so what i try to test is replace my memory card with another one. And it worked, since its a software or application issue not loading and cause my camera to work.
Its been working ever since, and i've learned my lesson. when the application is loading especiallly camera application, you shouldn't close them right away. wait until its done loading, then cancel or quit the app. Hope this helps. Take care and have a great day CM flare users!
