Top 5 Samsung Galaxy S4 Display / Screen Problems [Solutions Provided]

While the Samsung Galaxy S4 has one of the most impressive display technologies today, it is not free of problems. In this post, I will iterate five of the most common display problems owners may encounter. I also included recommendations / solutions that may solve each problem.

Blank Display

The screen is blank.


Issue

The entire screen is blank; the backlight comes on, but I do not see anything.

Possible Causes

·         The device's battery is drained or the device does not have an adequate charge to power on.
·         A third-party application has caused the device not to respond.
·         The device has experienced some type of physical or liquid damage.

Resolution

1.       Connect the charger to the device and allow the device to charge for a few minutes.
2.       Power on the device by pressing and holding the power button.

If the issue persists, continue below:

With the device still powered on, remove the battery for 30 seconds. After the time has elapsed, replace the battery and power on the device. 

Dead Pixel

Blank, White, or Dark spot on the screen.


Issue

A black dot appears on the display; colored dot(s) are visible.

Possible Causes

·         The pixel may be stuck and not dead.
·         A third-party application has caused the pixel to appear dead or stuck.
·         The device has experienced some type of physical or liquid damage.

Resolution

With the device still powered on, remove the battery for 30 seconds. After the time has elapsed, replace the battery and power on the device.

If the issue persists, continue below:

If the issue only appears in a certain application, the application will need to uninstalled

Cracked/Broken/Chipped Screen

The LCD is cracked.


Issue

The touchscreen on my device is cracked, but I can still use my device. The LCD is cracked and I can no longer view what is on the screen.

Possible Causes

·         The device has experienced some type of physical or liquid damage.

Resolution

1.      Your device will need to be sent in for repair. Physical damage is not covered under the Samsung Limited Warranty.

Bleeding Screen

The LCD is bleeding.


Issue

My display is not cracked but looks like it has ink or colored lines running across the screen.

Possible Causes

·         The device has experienced some type of physical or liquid damage.

Resolution

2.       Your device will need to be sent in for repair. Physical damage is not covered under the Samsung Limited Warranty.

Unresponsive Screen

Display is unresponsive to touch.


Issue

The device does not respond when I touch anywhere on the screen.

Possible Causes

·         Hands are wet or lotion was just applied to hands.
·         An accessory, such as a case or screen protector, is preventing the screen from responding.
·         The device has experienced some type of physical or liquid damage.
·         A third-party application has caused the device not to respond.

Resolution

1.       Dry hands and/or remove any lotions from your hands.
2.       Remove any accessories such as a case or screen protector.
3.       Clean the screen with a dry cloth to remove any excess oils or dirt.
4.       With the device still powered on, remove the battery for 30 seconds. After the time has elapsed, replace the battery and power on the device.

If the issue persists, continue below:

If the issue only appears in a certain application, the application will need to uninstalled.

the s4 uses a Super AMOLED display (Active Matrix Organic LED array). It is not LCD so it does not have backlight and screen bleed is not feasible either..... just sayin'
