Headphone/Headset Icon Not Showing In Galaxy S3 Notification Bar [How To Fix ]


Does the headphone/headset icon not showing in your Galaxy S3 notification bar even if the accessory is connected? This post will guide you through fixing this problem. Apparently, it is a bug in the Jelly Bean operating system for the S3 and Samsung hasn’t released an update to fix it yet.

While this bug exists in Galaxy S3s that received Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update (or even the most recent), users can still use their audio accessory and sounds will still be produced through them. However, because of the icon not showing anymore, they couldn’t access headphone apps via the notification bar, which is annoying for most users.

There are three available workarounds for this problem.

First Solution:

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu button.
  2. Choose Settings.
  3. Find and tap Accessory.
  4. Tap Earphones.
  5. Tap tick Audio Applications box.
That’s it. Problem resolved as long as Accessory option is still available in your phone. Otherwise, follow the second procedure.

Second Solution:

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu button.
  2. Choose Settings.
  3. Tap Display.
  4. Turn on Page Buddy and tap on it.
  5. Tick Earphones Page box.
For more advanced users, there is another procedure that will fix this problem in case the first two procedures are no good.

Third Solution:

Note: The following procedure needs your Galaxy S3 to be rooted. Otherwise, don’t attempt to do this as it won’t work.
  1. Download the following files: APK and 12 Headphone Shortcut.
  2. Copy both files into your phone and install them like you do with typical .apk files.
  3. Launch it and give it permission. Wait until it force-closes and just tap OK.
  4. Now reboot your phone into Recovery Mode.
  5. Install the zip file.
  6. Reboot your device and wait until everything is active.
  7. Insert your headphones and the icon is now showing in the notification bar.
