This article specifically addresses an issue relayed to us by one of our readers, saying she can’t access the Play Store when she tried to download an application on her Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone.

Common errors encountered when accessing the Play Store are as follow:
Error: ‘Market requires Background Data’
Background data must be enabled or turned on to use the Play Store app on your device. So if you’re getting the above error message, then verify if background data is turned on or enabled on your device. Here’s how:
a. Tap Settings to open the main Settings menu.
b. Scroll to Wireless & networks.
c. Select Data Usage.
d. Touch the menu icon (three-vertical-dots icon).
e. Make sure “Restrict background data” is unchecked and “Auto-sync data” is checked.
Error: ‘Can’t establish a reliable data connection to the server. Your SIM card may not be provisioned with data services.’

More troubleshooting methods
2. Make sure you can sign in to your Gmail account through a computer. This will help you isolate the problem or determine whether or not the issue is associated with your Gmail account.
3. Make sure Two-Way Verification is turned off and then try to sign in again.
4. Check if you have signed into that same Gmail account on your device.
5. Make sure Data is enabled on your phone.
6. Check your SIM card and make sure it’s working. Try to insert your SIM card into an available alternate device that can connect to the Internet. If your device cannot connect to the Internet with your SIM card, then please contact your phone carrier for further assistance, recommendations or SIM card replacement.
7. Clear data in the Play Store application. Follow these steps to clear the Play Store app data:
a. Tap Settings from the Home screen.
b. Tap Applications.
c. Tap Manage Applications.
d. Select Google Play Store.
e. Tap Clear Data and Clear Cache if available.
f. Press the Back key.
g. Tap on Download Manager.
h. Tap Clear Data and Clear Cache if available.
8. Perform a soft reset on your phone. Just turn your phone off and then turn it back on. Alternately, you can remove the battery with the phone turned on, wait for 30 seconds then re-insert the battery, and then turn the phone back on.
9. Try to connect to the Play Store again, after performing a soft reset.
10. If the aforesaid troubleshooting procedures fail, then you may need to perform a master reset or hard reset your Galaxy S5 to get the main problem fixed. A master reset however must be considered your last resort, because doing so will erase all your personal information from the phone and restore your device to factory default.
