Solving Audio Problems on Samsung Galaxy S3 [Troubleshooting Guide]

Among the number of issues encountered by users of Samsung Galaxy S3 voice feature, include poor call quality, no service, voice mail issues, and unable to make or receive calls.

This content will help you determine the problem cause and find the best possible solution to resolve the existing issues with your device. If the problem continues after performing a certain troubleshooting step, please proceed to the next step/method.

1. To make sure the problem is not due to your network coverage, ensure you are within your ISP or network carrier’s coverage area. You may need to contact your carrier and verify network coverage area for your service.

2. If you’ve ensured the problem is not on the network coverage area, then please check your speakerphone and see if it’s just working fine. Do this to make sure the problem is not due to a faulty speakerphone.


The speakerphone will only become available while on a call. It will automatically be disabled once the call is ended.

To enable/disable the speaker phone, select Speaker, located in the bottom-left of the screen while you are on call. An indicator that the speakerphone is enabled is a green indicator display.

3. Make sure Bluetooth is disabled. To check whether Bluetooth is turned off or on, get to the Home screen, then select Apps. Tap to select Settings from the Apps tab. Next, go to the Wireless & Networks section, then toggle the Bluetooth switch to OFF. This will disable the feature.

4. Check your phone’s audo settings and adjust the volume controls to your desired level. Adjusting the volume controls on your device can also help if you’re having trouble getting notifications, ringing, vibrating when receiving calls, texts or emails.

You can adjust the volume on your Galaxy S3 by pressing the Volume button located on the left edge. Just press it up to increase the volume or down to lower it.

Follow these steps to further configure your phone’s volume settings.

1. Tap Apps from the Home screen.
2. Go to the Apps tab, then tap Settings.
3. Go to the Device section, then tap Sound.
4. Now tap Volume to adjust the volume for any of the following options:

  • Ringtone
  • Music, video, games & other media
  • Notifications
  • System

5. Tap OK when done.

If you cannot adjust volume, then make sure the Turn Off All Sounds setting is disabled.

7. Check for any available software update for your device and upgrade when necessary. You may visit your carrier’s official website or Samsung website to check on the latest software update available for your device.

8. Check your device in Safe Mode for further troubleshooting and for problem isolation.

You can switch to safe mode and put your phone in a diagnostic state. In this state, you’ll be using default settings to determine if a third-party app is causing the problem to occur.

To get to Safe Mode, press and hold the Power button with the phone turned on. The power button is located on the right edge. Keep pressing this button until the Phone options prompt shows up, then release the button. Select and hold Power off option until the Restart in Safe Mode prompt appears. Tap on the option to Turn on Safe Mode. Wait until the phone completes the restart process, which could take a few minutes. When the phone restarts, you should then see Safe Mode in the bottom left of the home screen.

You can now test an app and phone functionality with Safe Mode enabled.

If the audio problem fails to occur, then the cause has been isolated to a third-party app. In this case, you may need to uninstall recently updated or installed apps on your device.

To get out of or disable Safe mode, power cycle your phone, re-install then test each application one at a time, to identify which is really causing the problem to occur on your device.

9. Perform a soft reset.

The process is done by turning the device off then back on. It is similar to restarting a computer. It is among the first steps in troubleshooting a device without affecting data. To do so, press and hold the Power button, select Restart, then tap OK. If you cannot perform a soft reset with the prior steps, you can remove then re-insert the battery. It’ll do the same.

If all else failed to resolve the problem, then it is very likely that it’s a hardware issue. Check your phone for any possible physical or liquid damage, like if it was accidentally dropped or exposed to liquid or moist. If so, then physical repair would be the fix.
