Microsoft has quietly removed the $999 base models of the Surface Pro 11 and Surface Laptop 7 from its online store. As of this week, both devices now start at $1,199, coinciding with the launch of the more affordable Surface Pro 12-inch and Surface Laptop 13-inch, priced at $799 and $899 respectively.
What Changed?
When the Surface Pro 11 and Laptop 7 launched, they were available in a $999 configuration that included a Snapdragon X Plus chip, 16GB of RAM, and 256GB SSD. That option has now disappeared. The new base model includes 512GB of storage, hence the $200 price jump.
No other models were affected, and the rest of the Surface configurations remain at their original pricing.
Why the Quiet Change?
The timing suggests Microsoft is trying to make the newer, smaller Surface devices seem like better deals. Had the $999 flagship models stayed in place, the price gap between them and the Surface Pro 12 or Laptop 13 would have been fairly small—just $100 to $200. Now, the difference is $300 to $400, depending on the model.
By removing the lower-priced options, Microsoft may be ensuring that buyers see more value in the new budget-friendly lineup.
Can You Still Get the $999 Model?
Yes—for now. While Microsoft no longer lists the $999 SKUs, third-party retailers like Best Buy and Amazon still offer them. If you’re hoping to grab one, now’s a good time to check for deals before they disappear completely.
