Apple has announced that iOS 26 will feature deep integration of OpenAI’s newly released ChatGPT-5 model into Apple Intelligence. The move will allow Siri to leverage ChatGPT-5’s advanced reasoning, improved coding tools, and enhanced video perception when Apple’s own AI can’t fulfill a request.
ChatGPT can currently be used in Apple Intelligence for tasks like web searches, document queries, and Visual Intelligence, and the same functionality will expand with the new model. Users will be able to access these features without an OpenAI account, though linking one will enable premium subscription benefits.
iOS 26 will also debut Live Translation for FaceTime and Messages, enabling real-time conversation interpretation. Visual Intelligence will get a major boost, allowing systemwide content searches and smarter results.
Apple says it will continue to obscure IP addresses and prevent OpenAI from storing user queries, maintaining privacy protections. The update is expected to roll out next month alongside the launch of the iPhone 17.
