BlackBerry Q10 Wi-Fi Network Management: Basic and Advanced Wi-Fi Settings Guide

This tutorial is primarily intended for new users of BlackBerry Q10 smartphone, who need help in adjusting Wi-Fi settings on their device. We’ll start from getting to the Wi-Fi settings menu from basic to advanced.

Typically, Wi-Fi offers wireless Internet access over distances of up to 300 feet. You will have to access to a wireless access point, otherwise referred to as “hotspot” to use your phone’s Wi-Fi.

Wi-Fi signal range and availability may vary depending on a number of factors like infrastructure and other objects through which the signal gets through.

You can manage Wi-Fi options by going to the Wi-Fi settings menu. It’s where you can enable/disable Wi-Fi, connect to a Wi-Fi network in range, add/create Wi-Fi networks and adjust Wi-Fi network settings according to your preference.

Let us begin with how to access the Wi-Fi settings menu. You can access the Wi-Fi settings menu in two ways, either directly from the home screen or through system settings.

A. Access Wi-Fi via System Settings. Follow these steps to get to Wi-Fi through system settings:

1. Get to the Home screen.
2. Swipe down from the top of the screen.
3. Tap Settings.
4. Tap Network Connections.
5. Select Wi-Fi.

B. Access Wi-Fi Settings menu from Home. If you prefer a quicker way, you can get to the phone’s Wi-Fi directly from the Home screen with the following steps:

1. Get to the Home screen.
2. Swipe down from the top of the screen, then tap Wi-Fi.

Now that you’ve already learned how to access your phone’s Wi-Fi settings, you may now proceed with wireless network settings configuration.

A. Basic Wi-Fi settings. Your phone’s basic wireless settings options will allow you to connect to a Wi-Fi network, delete an existing Wi-Fi network, and disable/enable an existing Wi-Fi network.

Connecting to a wireless network

Be sure to enable Wi-Fi first so you can use or connect to a wireless network on your phone. Your phone saves the network information, by the time you connect to a Wi-Fi network. This allows your device to automatically connect to that saved Wi-Fi network within range, when Wi-Fi is enabled.

Here are the steps to enabled Wi-Fi on Blackberry  Q10:

1. Get to the Home screen.
2. Swipe down from the top of the screen.
3. Tap Wi-Fi.
4. Toggle the Wi-Fi switch to turn it ON. Doing so will enable Wi-Fi on your device.
5. Now tap a network to connect to.
6. If prompted with the Wi-Fi Protected Setup screen, do any of the following:

* Tap Press WPS Button on Router or Enter PIN into router – If you have access to the Wi-Fi router that uses Wi-Fi Protected Setup.
* Tap Don’t use WPS – If you don’t have access to the Wi-Fi router or it doesn’t use Wi-Fi Protected Setup.

7. Enter the username and password for the Wi-Fi network, if required.
8. Tap Connect.

Hints:
You can use or connect to a saved Wi-Fi network on your phone. If a saved network is within range of your device, just swipe down from the top of the home screen and tap the Wi-Fi icon. Your phone will then automatically connect to that network.

If you’re having trouble automatically connecting to a Wi-Fi network, particularly hidden networks, you can connect manually. Here’s how:

1. Go to the Home screen.
2. Swipe down from top of the screen, then tap Wi-Fi.
3. Tap the icon with a + sign in a box.
4. Enter the network name in the SSID field.
5. Once you’ve done entering the network name, choose the network’s security type and specify any further information. You may contact your ISP or carrier and verify what information you should specify.
6. Finally, tap Connect.

Advanced Wi-Fi Settings
