Here are the recommended workarounds to help you determine the underlying cause and fix the problem by yourself. Be sure to test (charge) your phone after completing every step to see if the problem is fixed, otherwise, continue to the next method.

A. Check your phone, charging port and battery contacts to ensure none of them are damaged.

– Examine your phone carefully and make sure it is not overheating, swollen or damaged.
– Examine the charging port of your phone and remove any debris, if necessary.
– Take the battery off the phone, and carefully check and clean the gold contacts using a cotton swab or dry soft cloth.

In case you found out that your phone has any physical damage, please contact your phone carrier immediately and escalate your concern for further recommendations.

B. Check your phone and make sure it powers on.

Try to turn it on. If your phone doesn’t or can’t power on, then it’s most likely that your phone is damaged. Please contact your phone carrier or visit Samsung-authorized service center nearby and have your phone checked for hardware repair.

C. Ensure the charger is working.

Follow these steps to check your charger and see if it’s charging.

1. Connect your phone to your charger.
2. Tap Apps from the Home screen.
3. Scroll to and tap to select My Account.
4. Tap My Device.
5. Tap Dashboard.
6. Tap Battery Status.
7. Check the Battery Status and see if it says Charging. If it doesn’t say so, then the problem is most likely on the charger.

Using of the original charger that comes with your phone is highly recommended to avoid causing any damage to your device. If you are using any other compatible charger, then make sure it is in the same voltage, amps and plug type as your original charger.

You may also try to use the same charger to charge any other phone that has same charging slot.

D. Check your device software and ensure it’s running the most recent software.

Firmware updates are generally pushed to fix certain issues on a device. Thus, upgrading the phone’s software to the latest version available is recommended.

Follow these steps:

1. Get to the System Updates dashboard.
2. Tap Device Software.
3. Tap Check now to view details. If an update is available, then follow the prompts to install updates.

E. Remove the SD card from the phone carefully.

Follow these steps to safely remove the SD card:

1. Tap the Menu key.
2. Tap on Settings.
3. Tap More tab.
4. Tap on Storage.
5. Scroll to and tap Unmount SD card.
6. Tap OK to continue.
7. Finally, remove the SD card.

F. Perform a Soft Reset on the phone.

Performing a soft reset only restarts your phone. Any content or data will not be erased/removed in the process. Here’s how to soft reset your device.

1. Power off the phone.
2. Remove the battery.
3. Wait for 30 seconds, then re-insert the battery.
4. Turn the phone back on.

Now try to charge it again and see how it does. If problem persists or your phone still won’t charge, then please contact your phone carrier for appropriate recommendations. It’s likely that the main damage is on the phone/unit itself.
