Latest software update released for Samsung Galaxy Note 3 [How to upgrade]

Owners of Samsung Galaxy Note 3 may now go for the most recent software update, following the official roll-out of the new firmware version and update intended for the device.

The new Android 4.2.2/Baseband N900TUVUDNF4 firmware update for the Galaxy Note 3 was officially made available since the 31st of July, 2014, according to T-Mobile’s prior report.

Customers who are already on VoLTE software will receive notifications of the OTA software update while those who are not on a previously released VoLTE software would need to manually request the update through Wi-Fi because of the file size.

Manual update was also made available on the same date via Samsung Kies.

One of the new features entrenched in the new firmware for Galaxy Note 3 devices is its ability to turn on VoLTE. Users can also expect for network improvements after the software upgrade.

But before you go for an upgrade, we encourage you to first check your current software version. Follow these steps:

1. Tap the Menu key from the Home screen.
2. Tap Settings to continue.
3. Tap the More tab or General tab.
4. Tap About device under System manager or Device manager.
5. Check the software version in the Baseband field.
6. Read the current phone version and refer to the following software version and status information.

Your phone can update to software version N900TUVUDNF4:

If the update fails, contact customer care.
Other versions
Your phone has non-T-Mobile software, and it is unsupported. The manufacturer and T-Mobile cannot update your software.

Once you’ve checked the current software on your device, review the following requirements to update:

* 50% or higher battery life
* Wi-Fi connection
* File size of update

  • If updating from N900TUVUCNB4  is 25.79 MB
  • If updating from N900TUVUDNF1 is 188.00 MB

Please note that these requirements must be met for you to be able to update to the currect software version.

If you’re certain you’ve met all specified update requirements, then you may now proceed with the software upgrade. You may refer to the following guide, if you’re not sure of the process.

A. Automatic update Over-The-Air (OTA)

Note:
Please make sure you are connected to a Wi-Fi before performing the following procedures.

After getting the OTA notification, perform the following steps.

1. Tap Settings from the Home screen.
2. Tap the More tab to continue.
3. Tap About device.
4. Tap Software update.
5. Tap Ok to check for the update.

B. Download/Install Software update

The software update can be downloaded and installed from the phone or from a computer. Again, you must be connected to a Wi-Fi network to get these things done.

1. Via Phone (Use this url to download: http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-9050#update_download_phone)

a. Tap the Menu key from the Home screen.
b. Tap Settings to continue.
c. Tap the More tab.
d. Tap About device under System manager.
e. Tap Software update.
f. To start the device check for updates, tap OK.
g. To begin update, tap OK again.

2. Via Computer (Use this url to download: http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-9050#update_download_computer)

If you prefer to use a computer to download and install the update for your Note 3, then you will use Samsung Kies. Follow these steps:

a. Download the latest version of Kies that is compatible with PC through this site url: samsung.com/us/kies.


b. Double click on the Kies file to let the program self extract. Just wait until the extraction is complete.
c. Choose your preferred Language and Location.
d. Click Next to continue.
e. Read the license agreement and place a check mark on the box next to “I accept…” 
f. Click Next.
g. Kies should now initiate installation. Just wait until it’s done.
h. Click Finish when done.

Now prepare your Samsung Galaxy Note 3 for the software upgrade and follow these steps:

a. Press the Menu key from the home screen.
b. Tap Settings to proceed.
c. Tap the More tab.
d. If available, tap Developer options. Otherwise, skip to step h.
e. Tap OK.
f. Tap USB Debugging.
g. To exit the settings menu, tap the Home key.
h. Insert the USB data cable into the phone and the other end into an available port on the computer.
i. Select Media device (MTP) at the prompt.

Let your computer detect the attached devices and start with the installation process, which may take a few minutes. So just wait until it’s all done, then unplug the data cable afterwards.

j. Open the Samsung Kies app on your Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
k. Let the app detect the device and show an available update notification.
l. Follow the on-screen prompt to complete the software update.

Samsung supports the use of Samsung Kies to update the device software. So if you have further questions or concerns about the update process through Kies, you can escalate them to Samsung Support team for further assistance.
