Device issues like those associated with the touch screen, could be possibly due to a fault on certain phone apps settings or a hardware problem. But before you jump to the second possibility (hardware fault), let us try every means possible to fix the existing problem.

If you’re looking for some help in fixing the same problem with your Galaxy S4 device, then you can use this content to troubleshoot and until you finally have it resolved. Be sure to test your device after performing every step to see if the problem is already fixed. Otherwise, continue to the next step.

1. Make sure the phone is unlocked.

If you’re not sure, then check it again this time. It wouldn’t hurt if you start pressing the Power button, then lock the screen depending on which screen lock type you used to unlock your device. Once you’ve ensured the device is unlocked, try to touch the screen again and see if it works. Otherwise, proceed to step 2.

2. Verify your phone’s Display settings.

As what I’ve said, the problem could either be due to a faulty hardware or incorrect settings. To ensure an incorrect display setting is not causing the problem, take a look at it again. Follow these steps:

  • Tap Apps from the Home screen.
  • Tap Settings from the Apps tab.
  • Tap Display from the My device tab.
  • Tap Screen mode.

Note: Make sure the Adapt Display option is selected. You will know if the option is selected or enabled if a check mark is present. If not, then tap to put a check on it.

  • Select one of available options including Dynamic, Standard, Professional photo and Movie.
  • Tap Save.
  • Next, tap Brightness.
  • Adjust the screen display brightness as you desire, then tap OK. Or you can also tap Automatic brightness to adjust screen brightness automatically.
  • Tap on Auto-rotate screen to enable the feature.
  • Tap Screen timeout and select any of the given timeout options.
  • Tap Font style to adjust font settings.
  • Select your preferred Font style then tap Yes when done.
  • Select any of the given font sizes.
  • Tap Auto adjust screen tone to enable the feature.

3. Perform a soft reset or turn the phone off and on. Sometimes, a phone may not respond to touches because it’s actually freezing. A soft reset can fix several issues including freezing, as well as keypad doesn’t respond, so try it this time.

4. Check software version and update software to the latest version available, when necessary. Some issues are addressed with the latest software updates released. So verify if your device software is updated. If not, then go for an upgrade this time.

5. Perform a factory data reset or hard reset. This should be considered your last option, if all else have failed to resolve the problem. Please note that while a hard reset may help fix the problem, doing so will also delete your personal information stored in your phone. This is why you should back up all these files before you do a hard reset on your device.

If problem persists after performing a hard reset, then please contact your phone carrier to escalate your concern and for further assistance and recommendations.
