3 Ways To Enable Emoji Emoticons On Galaxy S4 Without Rooting

The Samsung Galaxy S4 could be the most powerful smartphone to date but it’s not perfect. One of the things it lacked is Emoji Emoticons. This post will provide a step-by-step tutorial on how to enable Emoji Emoticons on Galaxy S4 without rooting the device.

While most people think emoji needs special procedures to be enabled on high-end smartphones like the S4, the truth is it’s not. The fact is, you can find the answer at the Google Play Store. But here’s the catch: you need to install a third-party messaging app to be able to use those expressive little icons in your messages.

Enable Emoji On Galaxy S4 Via Go SMS App

  1. Launch the Play Store app.
  2. Tap the Search icon and enter ‘go sms pro’ and tap on the first search result.
  3. Download and install  the app into the Galaxy S4.
  4. Once installation is finished, launch Go SMS Pro.
  5. Create a new message.
  6. Tap on the smiley icon just underneath the text field. You would be able to see smilies in the next screen.
  7. On the lower portion of the screen, there are five icons; tap the one in the middle as that’s for emoji emoticons.
  8. You will be instructed to download emoji, so you have to touch the green button.
  9. Install Go SMS Pro Emoji Plugin.
  10. Now, launch Go SMS Pro and repeat step 5 through 7 and you would be able to insert Emoji Emoticons in your text messages.

Enable Emoji On Galaxy S4 Via Chomp SMS App

  1. Launch the Play Store app.
  2. Tap the Search icon and enter ‘chomp sms’ and tap on the first search result.
  3. Download and install  the app into the Galaxy S4.
  4. Once installation is finished, launch Go SMS Pro.
  5. Tap New Message to compose a new text message.
  6. Touch the plus sign (+) to open up smilies window.
  7. At the bottom of the screen there are 8 icons. From the 3rd icon down to the 7th are for emoji emoticons. Tap any of them.
  8. You will be instructed to download a plugin to gain access to hundreds of emoji icons. Tap the Download button, choose Play Store.
  9. Install Chomp SMS Emoji Add-on.
  10. Once installation is done, you could now insert emoji in your text messages.

Enable Emoji On Galaxy S4 Via Handcent SMS App

  1. Download and Install Handcent SMS app.
  2. Once installation is complete, launch the app.
  3. Tap the New Message icon located in the upper-right corner of the screen.
  4. Tap the lightning bolt icon next to the text field.
  5. Touch Smiley and choose Emoji.
  6. You’ll be redirected to the Play Store page of Handcent Emoji Plugin. Install it.
  7. You can now repeat step 3 through 5 to insert Emoji in your text message.
So far, these are the messaging apps that offer Emoji. It’s free and there’s no rooting needed, so it’s safe.

We are currently working on a procedure to enable Emoji on Galaxy S4′s stock messaging app but we’re afraid we have to root our Galaxy S4. We will publish a tutorial once we’ve done it but it’s not really for average users.

I hope this helps.

  4. So far, those are the apps we've personally tested with our device. We can guarantee they are straightforward (they offer what they promise) and works perfectly with GS4.

  14. Same here. I downloaded the Jelly Bean Keyboard Pro, the Handcent Emoji Plugin and the Handcent SMS app that you mentioned above. When I launch the Handcent SMS app, create a new message, click the lightning bolt, and select Emoji, nothing happens. I'm not redirected to the play store...maybe because I installed the plugin already? I can use the Handcent Emoji app to send messages and I see the Emoji working that way, but I'd rather not use an app to send messages. When I used the phone's messaging, I just get the blank boxes for the Emoji...to all users, not just iPhone users. What did I do wrong?

  15. Okay I'm confused. Arent you supposed to be able to see the emojis in the text and not just a box?

  16. You don't have to do all that. tap on new message, tap on settings, select "insert smiley"
